The fire type Torchic will be heating up May’s Community Day and sending Pokémon GO Trainers on the search for a shiny. But, that’s not all as this extra hot event will also offer in-game bonuses, a special move for Blaziken evolves, and the opportunity for players to socialize with their fellow PGOers.
Here’s a quick look at what participants can expect and tips on how to make the most of the day.
3x Catch Stardust
100% IV: 937CP (at Level 30)
100% Weather Boosted IV: 1015CP (at Level 35)
Torchic is boosted in Sunny/Clear weather.
Niantic has announced that Blast Burn will be the special move for any Blaziken evolved during (& up to one hour after) the Community Day event, allowing this featured monster to become the #1 Fire type attacker, ahead of Moltres.
Prep Prior to Community Day:
Tip #1: Catch as many Torchic as you can prior to Community Day to build up your Candy and have a shot at finding one with high IV’s which will make a great Blaziken. (Especially keep your eyes peeled for Torchic on Sunny/Clear days when it’s weather boosted).
Tip #2: Use Pinap Berries every time you catch a Torchic to earn extra Candy.
Tip #3: Appraise Torchic and Combusken you currently own and notate any that may be good enough to evolve on Community Day. (I usually put CD in front of the name so I can find it quickly).
Tip #4: Make sure you have at least 200 spaces open in your Pokémon storage so you’ll have plenty of room for capturing Torchic during the event.
Tip #5: Clear out all non-essentials out of your Item Storage.
Tip #6: Stock up on Pinap Berries & Pokéballs. (This can be achieved by spinning Pokéstops as well as opening gifts (up to 20 daily) from friends).
Tip #7: Consider purchasing Star Pieces (if you don’t already own some) to take full advantage of the event’s Catch Stardust bonus.
Tip #8: Make sure all 3 Field Research slots are open prior to the event so you can capture CD tasks when you spin Pokéstops.
Tip #9: Find a fellow Trainer to trade with on Community Day.
Tip #10: Place your Torchic in gyms and feed him for the chance to earn additional Candy.
Strategies for Community Day:
Tip #1: Catch as many Torchic as you can during the event to increase your chance of finding a shiny and/or high IV monster.
Tip #2: Throw Pinap Berries with every Torchic catch to help increase your Candy count needed for evolves. (It takes 125 Candies to evolve a Torchic to Blaziken).
Tip #3: Take the time to complete CD Research Tasks which are not only easy to fulfill but reap terrific rewards such as Berries, Balls, and Stardust.
Tip #4: Don’t evolve any Torchic/Combusken until after the event has started so the resulting Blaziken will have the special event move.
Tip #5: Don’t set lures right before 3pm EST, otherwise you’ll see a lot of non-event Pokémon spawning during the first crucial moments of the event.
Tip #6: Use Star Pieces during the event to increase the already tripled amount of Catch Stardust by 1.5 times.
Tip #7: Trade all of your high CP/low IV Torchic with a fellow Trainer for a chance at a Lucky and/or one with better stats. (This includes any Torchic at 4500 Stardust or higher).
Tip #8: Use the hour after the Torchic spawns have ended (6-7pm EST) to trade & evolve.
May’s Community Day event will take place from 3-6pm EST on Sunday, May 19th.
