Our Pokémon Go Community Day was a huge success. 25 PGoers from all over Wilkes County gathered at our local college to take advantage of this bonus-filled event. We talked, walked, ate, and caught. We also enjoyed a beautiful, spring like afternoon which was a terrific break from weeks of bitter cold.
Not only were the rewards as advertised, but even better than expected. The featured Pikachu was everywhere! We were hoping to catch one or two with the special Surf move, but never expected to catch about 75 each. In fact, there were so many spawns, we were able to Gold our Pikachu Fan badges.
In the days before, we’d heard rumor a few shiny versions of the little, yellow mascot might also make an appearance. Again, to our surprise, these rare finds popped up throughout the event, so much so, that every participant took home at least three.
For those of us who are working hard to make it from level 35 to 40, double XP was a welcome reward. And, thanks to our lures automatically lasting 3 hours, increased Pokémon spawn rates, along with a few evolves and lucky eggs thrown in, we all made a lot of progress.
Overall, it was a terrific event. Not only did we make a great amount of headway in the game, but did so in the company of our fellow players.
Personally, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thanks, Niantic!
