In a livestream event yesterday, Monster Hunter: World producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto announced an exciting new expansion and a few other additions coming to the hit game in 2019.
“Arch-Tempered” Kulve Taroth
The gorgeous beast, Kulve Taroth, will be making a grand return to the MHW game, this time in an “arch-tempered” form.
The basic strategy to take him down will be the same as it was when he appeared in a previous limited time event. Up to 16 players from the hub can group into teams of 4 each and, if successful, earn appraisal weapons and rewards.
The main difference in this version versus the previous one, is that hunters will now be able to push the Kulve Taroth into a new “furied” state by fulfilling certain conditions before the beast sheds its gold plating.
If hunters complete a siege under these new conditions, rainbow items (which are a grade more powerful than gold items) will await. A new y (gamma) of armor made from “arch-tempered” Kulve Taroth materials will also be obtainable.
When the new “arch-tempered” Kulve Taroth is added to the game, his original standard form will disappear. However, the original rewards from his previous appearance will still be available when you defeat this newest version.
The new Kulve Taroth Siege will be available from December 19th until January 3rd.
Monster Hunter: World Iceborne
The biggest addition coming to the game will be a huge, new expansion called Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
It will be similar in size to “Ultimate” and “G” entries in the Monster Hunter series (i.e. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate). In the expanded world, players will enjoy new quests, ranks, monsters, locales, moves, and equipment. A new storyline will also be involved that takes place after the events in the current Monster Hunter: World game.
This purchasable add-on will release next Fall for PS4 & XB1, with a PC version coming at a later time. More details about the new area will be announced in the Spring.
You can see the reveal video on Capcom’s YT channel.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Capcom has revealed that a Witcher collaboration starring Geralt of Rivia is coming early next year for PS4 & XB1 (with a PC release later).
This crossover event will involve quests which will inject the “immersive RPG qualities” of The Witcher series into the world of Monster Hunter. It will also include original voice recordings created specifically for this special occasion.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt x Monster Hunter: World update will be available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, and the Monster Hunter language.

“Arch-Tempered” Nergigante
The powerful Nergigante will be getting a similar treatment to the Kulve Taroth, receiving a new, “arch-tempered” form. This new beast will make his appearance in Spring of next year.
Appreciation Fest
As a way to say “thank you” to their players and to celebrate MHW’s one year anniversary, Capcom will be bringing an Appreciation Fest to the game in January. This fest will have all the special features from the seasonal events including a decorated Gathering Hub and all new equipment that can be obtained from brand new quests. More details to come.
