In a livestream via their YouTube channel yesterday, Nintendo announced what the future of indie games on the Switch will look like. Out of the 19 games that were showcased, 6 stood out as ones that would appeal to the casual gamer.
Mom Hid My Game!

If you’re a fan of seek and find/puzzle games, then you might be excited to hear about Mom Hid My Game! The concept is as simple as the title suggests. You’re literally looking for the game your mom hid from you. It does go a little deeper than that though. We’re told that players must use their imagination if they want to successfully make it through (and find the hidden game in) each of the 50 levels.
The game releases later this year on the Switch and 3DS, both sporting exclusive stages.

Floor Kids

Floor Kids is a breakdancing, rhythm based action game that contains cool, hand-drawn characters created by Jon Jon and jammin’ music by Kid Koala. There are several locations and 100’s of moves.
You have 3 ways to play; freestyle, rhythm, or battle. Players can use traditional controls or touch screen gestures.
As a kid of the 80’s and a fan of breakdancing (and rhythm games), this one looks like a must-play. The game will launch first on the Nintendo Switch console, sometime this holiday season.

Poly Bridge

Are you a fan of sandbox/simulator games like Minecraft? Then, Poly Bridge might be for you. It’s a bridge building game with physic based puzzle solving and over a hundred levels.
Go through the main campaign or create your own bridges and puzzle levels to share with family and friends.
Poly Bridge will release this holiday season as a Switch exclusive.

Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition

Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition is a mysterious, episodic game that starts off with a truck driver getting lost one evening while trying to make a delivery. Along the way, he meets dozens of characters and explores the highways and country roads of Kentucky.
Inspired by Monkey Island and Telltale’s Walking Dead series, KRZ’s developers describe it as a point and click game that concentrates on characterization and storytelling rather than puzzle solving or skill.
Four of the five episodes came out previously on the PC. With the release on the Switch, will come the 5th and final act of the series.
KRZ will be a Switch console exclusive, out sometime in early 2018.

Yono and the Celestial Elephants

This is a terrific looking action/puzzle game that stars an adorable little elephant named Yono. He can run, open chests with his trunk, headbutt bad guys, spray water, blow flames, push blocks, throw explosives, and mess with chickens.
Explore 4 towns of people, shops and side-quests. Explore forests and caves to find treasures and upgrades. Use all of Yono’s abilities to solve puzzles.
The game will launch on October 12th and will release exclusively on the Switch.

Light Fingers

One to four players can manipulate a magical clockwork board in a turn based, multiplayer game featuring real-time challenges, devious opportunities for misdirection, and lots of loot.
It has procedurally generated boards which means you’ll never play the same game twice. It also has table top support, making it the perfect game to share with friends, on the go.
Light Fingers launches first on the Switch in early 2018.

It’s exciting to see such a wide variety of indie games coming to the Switch over the next few months. It’s also very encouraging to find out that several are for the casual gamer.
Hopefully, this is a good sign that, when it comes to the new Switch console, the non-hardcore players will not be left behind.
