Niantic announced the surprising news today that they have been working on a nomination system which will allow longtime Pokémon Go players to suggest locations for Pokéstops. It’s not ready to roll out just yet, but will be in a beta very soon in Brazil and South Korea.
So, how’s it going to work?
Step 1: Go the object/location you think would make a great Pokéstop
Step 2: Set the location on the map
Step 3: Take a photo of the object/location
Step 4: Take a 2nd photo to show what’s in the surrounding area
Step 5: Create a title & description of the object/location
Step 6: Explain why this Pokéstop is a good location
Step 7: Submit
Submissions will then be reviewed by experienced users in the Ingress Operation Portal Recon (OPR) project who’ll let you know if your location is chosen.
The main requirement for Trainer participation is that the player has reached level 40. Child accounts are excluded.
If, like us, your first reaction to the news is, “Oh, I’ll put a Pokéstop near my house,” unfortunately, that’s probably not going to work out, because there are strict guidelines on what does and doesn’t qualify for a successful Pokéstop. So, who benefits most from the nomination system?
– Rural players who need more Pokéstops in their area
– Dedicated Trainers who’ve already leveled out
This is also a terrific incentive to players who haven’t yet reached level 40 to get to work and level up fast.
