The Festive Seasoning is a holiday themed downloadable addition to the original Overcooked! game that contains 2 new characters, 8 new levels, and a snowy setting.
The Onion King sends you to investigate the Festive Seasoning Food Festival which his dog Kevin has read about on the internet.
There are two new chefs, both of which are easily achieved:
- Red nosed reindeer
- Carrot nosed snowman
They’re great mascots for the holiday theme. However, after getting 6 with the previous DLC, I was hoping to have a few more.
The 8 DLC levels are fresh, lively and excitingly creative thanks to 2 new recipes and a new method of cooking.
The 2 new recipes are:
- winter stew
- turkey dinner
Vegetables and sometimes meat are included in the stew. This time, instead of having to cook your meat separately, you get to throw it into the pot with the other ingredients, which is a nice change of pace.
With the turkey meal comes a new method of cooking in the form of blowtorching your food. Blowtorching your turkey and sides is absolutely as exciting as it sounds. As you can guess, it’s a much faster way to cook and, if you line up your ingredients just right, you can torch 3 at a time.
Unlike The Lost Morsel, the levels in this one aren’t open to play from the start. You have to earn your way into each. However, the cost is only one star.
The timer has been increased from 4 minutes to 5 which may not sound like a big deal, but it is. This extra minute allows you more time to get acquainted with a new kitchen the first time through. It also allows a little more leeway for making mistakes without it being the end of the world.
Although the increased timer and more efficient method of cooking via blowtorching are advantages, with these, the player is expected to produce many more orders. The upped expectations and new kitchen trials make this DLC a fitting challenge for anyone who’s finished the original game.
Once again, the music is outstanding and goes right along with the atmosphere of the kitchen areas.
The main theme starts off with a light touch and a soft choir hum in the background then unfolds into a full blown orchestral, Christmastime dreamland.
The kitchen music is an urgent call to step lively, consisting of string instruments and bells.
Festive Seasoning is a stew making, turkey torching, maze running delight. If you love the original Overcooked! game, this free download is unquestionably something you will want to play.
