The Lost Morsel is a downloadable addition to the original Overcooked! game. It contains new levels, characters, music, and a tropical locale.
Getting Started
As usual, the Onion King sends you on your adventure. His dog Kevin lets you borrow his helicopter so you’ll have a means of transportation to get you from place to place.
New Chefs
There are 6 adorable new characters to achieve along the way:
- Piggy chef
- Green dinosaur
- Teddy bear
- Panda bear
- Robotic chef (think Wall-E in an apron)
- French Bulldog
In addition, you can access all of the characters you earned from playing the original game.
New Kitchens
Overall, the new areas don’t feel completely fresh and new but more like ones you’d find in the original game. The lack of new recipes / ingredients doesn’t help. Despite that, there are a couple of exciting challenges to be had such as shifting floor layouts and fireballs being shot at your chefs.
Intensity
As you can imagine this isn’t beginner level playtime. Each of the 6 new levels have been designed to challenge someone who’s finished the original game. You’ll have to work harder and do more in those 4 minutes just to earn one star, much less three. The good news is that all the levels are open from the start so if you struggle with one, you can move forward and then come back later when you’re ready to try it again.
Music
The music in Overcooked is surprisingly great. The DLC is no different.
The main theme (which you hear between levels) is a mix of mysterious, percussive, eclectic, and native. If you listen carefully you’ll catch the constant sound of the helicopter in the background which blends in as a natural part of the song.
In the kitchen, you cook to a thumping, hip-hop tropical beat full of manly grunts, underlined by a bass growl. It’s a great sound but is so intense that it’s a bit distracting until you get used to it.
Final Say
The Lost Morsel contains some decent challenges, cute chefs, heart thumping music, and 6 new levels that can be played in any order you choose. Although not quite as inspired as the original game, it’s still a nice addition and worth a play if you’re looking for some more crazy, kitchen fun.
