On Monday, Niantic announced a new task/reward function will soon be making its way to the Pokémon Go game. Yesterday, the developers behind the new mechanic gave some insight into how this feature will work.
Here’s highlights of what was revealed.
– The new mechanics will be appealing to a wide variety of Trainers, from casual to hardcore.
– There will be tasks available for singular play as well as for those who love to PGo with others.
– Whether you plan a 30-minute PGo session or want to play all day, there will be tasks that accommodate.
– Tasks for more experienced players will be based on skill and execution rather than random chance.
– Tasks for inexperienced players will involve learning new skills and increasing knowledge about the game.
– Rewards for completing tasks will be in line with the difficulty level of that assignment.
– Easier tasks will reward functional items that are useful in the game.
– Harder tasks will allow for higher quality bonuses such as an encounter with an “elusive” Pokémon.
– Sometimes the Research work and matching reward will have a common theme. For example, after a player completes a task involving a Fire-type Pokémon, he/she might then have the opportunity to come across a Fire-type monster in the wild.
The developers went on to say that they tried to make the Research assignments fun, rather than being something that’s a chore or overly repetitive. They also hope that the Research will change and grow over time.
The latest PGo update, which includes this new feature, is available now. The in-game tasks will become viewable/accessible on Friday.
