There’s been quite the debate going on about whether or not Capcom should or realistically could port Monster Hunter: World to the Nintendo Switch. Currently, it’s out on the PS4 and XB1 systems, with a planned release later in the year for the PC.
Many, including us, would love to see it on the Switch, so we could not only play the game at home, but on the go.
However, numerous gamers, and Capcom’s President, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, aren’t so sure that this particular game would work on Nintendo’s new, hit console. In fact, Mr. Tsujimoto basically said so, in a statement last month, on Kotaku.com.
Taking into account various conditions, bringing Monster Hunter: World now for release is difficult. The reason is that the Switch has different functions from other stationary consoles as well as different players.”
Each game console has its own characteristic, and it’s necessary that we, as game makers, adapt to that when making {a game}.
After this statement, it seemed that all was lost on a Switch version of MHW ever happening. That is, until 2 days ago, when Adam Boyes dared Capcom to give his studio a try at completing this seemingly impossible task.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Adam Boyes, he’s the former Director of Production at Capcom USA. He’s currently CEO of Iron Galaxy Studios, the company that made it possible for the massively sized and complex Skyrim to travel to the Switch.
So far, Capcom hasn’t responded to Adam’s challenge (at least not publicly).
Here’s hoping the company will give their former employee and his studio a chance to show what they can do. Or, at the very least, maybe this public “throwing down of the gauntlet” will persuade Capcom to do a worldwide release of the currently Japanese only, Switch version of Monster Hunter XX.
