“How To” Tips
Prep Prior to the Event:
Tip #1: The 1st thing you want to do is evaluate which Pokémon will be most important to you during the event. This may be based on which Community Days you missed, shiny versions you don’t yet have, the most useful monsters to you in the game, spawns you rarely see, and/or any other type of criteria.
If your priority is to build up your team of fighters, here’s a list of monsters who make great allies in Raids, PvP, and Rocketstop Grunt/Gym Leader battles.
Tyranitar
Metagross
Blaziken
Charizard
Infernape
Gardevoir (better w/Psychic rather than the CD exclusive move)
Dragonite (better w/Outrage rather than the CD exclusive move)
Salamence
Tip #2: When prioritizing, you may also want to consider which Pokémon will be weather boosted during the days of the event.
Tip #3: Purchase more Pokémon storage now that it’s available. You’ll need all the space you can afford, especially if you plan to keep a lot of monsters for trading.
Tip #4: Purchase Item storage if you’re not already maxed out. You’ll need plenty of space for Pokéballs & Pinap berries as well as Potions, Revives, Raid Passes, and Incubators.
Tip #5: Get rid of non-essential items and Pokémon prior to the event to give you even more space for raiding/capturing monsters and to carry the items you do need like the aforementioned Pinaps & Pokéballs.
Tip #6: Stock up on Pinaps & Pokéballs since you’ll need both when catching. (You’ll also need Revives/Potions if you’re planning to raid). If you’re not able to visit and spin Pokéstops prior to the event, consider opening up gifts from friends. (You can open up to 20 per day).
Tip #7: Find a fellow Trainer to trade with during the event.
Tip #8: If planning to hatch eggs during the event, be sure to clear out (hatch) every egg you currently own before Saturday. (Hatches during the 3-hour window on Saturday & Sunday will happen in 1/2 the time & eggs will include 2018 & 2019 monsters).
Strategies for the Event:
Tip #1: When trading during the event, concentrate your efforts on your top 5 priority Pokémon first. You’re only allowed 100 trades per day so you’ll need to use them wisely.
Tip #2: Save weather boosted monsters that are above 5000 Stardust even if the stats are bad. These are perfect candidates for trading.
Tip #3: Use Pinap berries when catching your top priority Pokémon.
Tip #4: Evolve all of your best Pokémon at one time and use a Lucky Egg when you do to earn extra XP.
Tip #5: Use a Star Piece when catching Pokémon to earn extra Stardust. (This is especially important during the 11am-2pm window each day when you can earn 2x the usual Stardust on top of what you earn with a Star Piece).
Final Tip: If you have the storage space, save every monster you catch that you want to earn extra candy for. If you trade with someone who has long distance Pokémon you’ll earn 2-3 Candies per trade.
Happy Community Day Weekend! We’ll see you out there!
