Poogie is a beloved character in the Monster Hunter series that’s existed since the very beginning. The pig that wears a crown and diaper (a lot of the time) is truly an iconic symbol of Capcom’s long-running series and something that fans have come to expect in every release.
Monster Hunter Stories on the Nintendo 3DS is no exception. In fact, this cute little guy is one of the most adorable parts of the game.
You stumble upon your first Poogie during exploration. You discover that 100 of these little tykes have gone astray and it’s your job (if you choose) to locate them.
Some are easy to spot while others are much harder. They could be hidden amongst townsfolk in a city, stuck in the mud, or behind some barrels.
Wherever they are, with this many to find, it will most definitely take a while.
It’s a truly heart-warming experience to rescue a Poogie. The charming, pink creature squeals with joy and jumps with excitement at the fact that he’s no longer lost. He then shows his appreciation by leaving behind a reward.
Each time you locate a Poogie, you receive an entry in the Encyclopoogia. This is a document that shows each Poogie’s picture, name, and area where found.
You can access this information by talking to the Poogie friend located near any Stable.
He will also allow you to access the list of rewards that will be coming your way for every 10th Poogie found.
When you visit a Stable, you’ll see the same, familiar face each time. If you want to change the piggy who greets you, you can. I must warn you though, the more costumed Poogies you obtain, the harder it becomes to choose just 1. Of course, if you want, you can change out your Poogie every so often for the sake of variety.
As a first-time player of the Monster Hunter series, I truly see why Poogie is such a treasured character. I also greatly appreciate that Capcom included him as an important side quest in the game.
I wish luck to all of you trying to find the 100 Poogies. (I’m still working on it myself). I hear that there’s an extra special reward to receive when you do!
